Observing Lent: Learning together

This Lenten season, we’re diving in to a new series called, “Out of the Ashes – The Beauty Hiding in Our Most Difficult Experiences.” We begin this week with a celebration of the Eucharist (communion) during our gatherings and will continue this practice weekly until Easter. We’re looking forward to journeying together through this special season.

We’re also offering an additional learning opportunity on Tuesdays during Lent, titled “Practices (not Performances) for Lent and Beyond.” Our friend Dr. Jim Stump will lead us through some teaching and discussion of some of the spiritual practices that Christians have used for centuries, and then we’ll practice them together. We hope you can join us on Tuesdays, beginning March 12, through April 16 (skipping March 26), at 7:30 p.m. at Studebaker 112. (No registration necessary, but weekly attendance is encouraged!)

Kids’ Ministry space update

Beginning this weekend, we’ll expand our Kids’ Ministry space to include the 2nd floor classroom that was part of our Christmas offering project! We’re grateful for the added space that will help us serve families better. Please note there will be some room changes with this addition, and room assignments may be different depending on gathering time.

Thank you for your patience as we make this transition. If you have questions, please look for the Kids’ Team volunteers wearing blue lanyards. They will be able to direct you to the correct classrooms.

Affordable housing update

This Christmas, we introduced a new way we’ll be partnering with Hope Ministries to offer affordable housing to people who have completed Hope’s programs and are ready for their next steps. We’re getting ready to help Hope purchase their first property and pilot their affordable housing program. In this process, we want to explore all possibilities. If you know of a property that would be a good fit for this program that is at a low cost or a potential donation, please email Ryan at ryan@southbendcitychurch.com as soon as possible!

Volunteering for IDEA Week 2019

We’re hosting a special conversation with Kevin Kelly, co-founder of WIRED magazine, titled “The Future of Spirituality and Technology” on Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. The event is a part of this year’s IDEA Week, an innovation festival hosting business, technology, and entertainment events that is organized by The IDEA Center at the University of Notre Dame.

We’re excited to partner with IDEA Week for this event and want to be sure we provide a great experience for those who attend! If you’re interested in volunteering, please email Matt Graybill (matt@southbendcitychurch.com). We’re looking for help with parking, greeting, hospitality, VIP room, and setup/logistics.
