2026 Lent Workshop

This spring we have an opportunity to offer one workshop throughout Lent (February and March 2026). Workshops offer in-depth learning and practice beyond our gatherings, with experienced guides encouraging us to explore areas that help us go deeper into our life with God and one another. The Lent workshop will be Thursday nights from 7-8:30p from February 26-March 26 (with the exception of March 12). We had the opportunity to sit down with our guide, Dr. Macie Sweet, to get to know her and to explore a bit of what the workshop will be like. For information on workshop content and guide, see below or to register, click the workshop title.

The Cross Through the Ages: Artistic Shifts that Inform Our Faith
For two thousand years, depictions of the crucifixion of Jesus have been portrayed through art. Age by age, artistic relics have given historians a glimpse into both cultural and theological focuses by how the cross and Jesus are represented. SBCC community member and Notre Dame’s Dr. Macie Sweet will be guiding the workshop. We will look at artifacts throughout the ages and explore how this shapes our faith.

Dr. Macie Sweet is a scholar of medieval theology at the University of Notre Dame, where she teaches in the Department of Theology. Her research focuses on the history of Christianity in the medieval period, especially the interplay between liturgical practice, theological thought, and material culture. She holds advanced degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and the University of St. Andrews. When she’s not in the classroom, Macie enjoys playing tennis, doing yoga, spending time with her cats and reading novels.
