As the University of Notre Dame begins construction on its major downtown development initiative, Colfax Corner, our lead pastor, Jason Miller, recently sat down with Notre Dame Executive Vice President Shannon Cullinan for a thoughtful conversation about the project and its potential impact on our city. Stay tuned for the conversation on our podcast on Tuesday, June 16th, which you can find on our website or anywhere you listen to podcasts.
Together, they discuss not only the vision behind Colfax Corner, but also the long and sometimes complicated relationship between Notre Dame and the city of South Bend. As South Bend City Church continues its commitment to meeting our neighbors on common ground and working toward the common good, we believe these are important conversations for our community to engage in. Throughout this process, we have appreciated the ongoing dialogue with University leaders and the opportunity to contribute to conversations about what mutual flourishing might look like for all people in downtown South Bend. While we may not always see every issue the same way, we are grateful for the relationships being built and for the shared desire to see our city thrive.
In the months ahead, you’ll begin to see significant changes around our block, including the demolition of Main Street Row, temporary road closures, the creation of new pedestrian pathways, and the construction of a new building at the corner of Colfax and Main. Throughout the project, we have been informed that the alleyway adjacent to our building will remain open, and parking at the corner of Lafayette and Colfax will continue to be available.
