As a community whose mantra Everyone An Icon reminds us that every human being bears the sacred image of God, we’re grieved with the knowledge that so many LGBTQIA+ people have suffered from harmful messages and practices within the Church. We also know that you may still have questions about how a Christian can take seriously the Bible and historic Christian teachings while fully affirming LGBTQIA+ people.
This June, we’re honoring Pride Month in order to celebrate our queer family, and to continue to learn and grow in what it means to see the image of God in everyone. Check these resources and opportunities:
JOIN
This year we have the opportunity to join our neighbors, The Cathedral of St. James, for their Pride Eucharist on Saturday, June 27th at 2p. This service is a joyful affirmation of the LGBTQIA+ community, centering on the belief that everyone is created in the image of God. Experience a blend of sacred tradition and radical inclusion in the heart of downtown South Bend.
If you would like to be a part of the community choir for this event, you can join the only rehearsal at 12:30p on the 27th. If you have questions about the community choir, you can email Dr. Steven Wietstock at music@stjamessouthbend.org.
